Proper care of your garden camellias

Your new plant will arrive in a 24 cm pot. It grows ideally when planted out as a specimen plant, in groups or under larger plants. When planting, choose a sunny to partially shaded, but sheltered location. It thrives best in acidic, low-lime soil. Use a lightly diluted rhododendron fertilizer. Once planted, it is largely winter-hardy down to -5 to -12 °C. In winter, cover the roots with fleece and mulch during periods of severe frost. The camellia's characteristic blooms in red or pink are available in two varieties in the ALDI online shop: pink or red. The plant tolerates pruning well and continues to grow after being cut back. In mild climates, it can reach a height of up to 4 meters. During the warmer months, the plant develops numerous buds that bloom from autumn to late spring, depending on the variety. Camellias are triggered to bloom by a period of cold – nevertheless, you should place your camellias in a sheltered spot to enjoy their magnificent blooms for as long as possible.
